What interests you most about the Gulf Scholars Program?
The Gulf Scholars program interested me because it focuses on both the Gulf and the Mississippi Delta. I am from the Mississippi Delta, so I have a lot of personal experience with how important agriculture is in our small town. I also really liked that the program offers a lot of freedom in research. I find it interesting that I can study and research a large scale issue without having to travel a long distance. With my findings, I want to connect Delta based issues to the larger Gulf ecosystem.
What are you considering for your Gulf Impact Project?
For my Gulf Impact project, I am considering exploring how flooding affects agriculture and businesses in the Mississippi Delta. I want to address the issue and potentially present some solutions to help the region become more resilient to these natural processes.
What are you most excited to learn more about?
I am most excited to learn more about all the other members of this special program. Our cohort is special because we all come from different majors and backgrounds, so I am excited to learn more about everyone's interests and ideas. These different perspectives make the program unique and more interesting, as complex issues can be approached from different perspectives.
What do you want to accomplish by the end of the program?
By the end of the program, I hope to build on my personal abilities and traits. This program builds on improving problem solving and research skills, which are vital in the workplace. I feel that strengthening these abilities will open doors in my education and future career.
