Interested in joining our team?

Potential undergraduate students:

E-mail Dr. Reinemann directly at dnreinem@olemiss.edu with your request and your motivation for wanting to join the lab. You should include your current resume and transcript (unofficial is fine). The field of molecular biophysics is highly interdisciplinary, crossing boundaries in biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.  You do not have to be a biomedical engineering student to work in the lab!

Potential graduate students:

For a Ph.D. in Engineering Science with an emphasis in Biomedical Engineering or a Ph.D. in Engineering Science with an emphasis in Chemical Engineering:

Application requirements specifically for my lab include:

  • Complete application to the Graduate School and Department
  • CV or resume
  • transcript(s)
  • statement of research interests, motivation, and future goals (e.g. Why are you interested specifically in our lab?)
  • at least two letters of recommendation

Interested students should email Dr. Reinemann at dnreinem@olemiss.edu with a statement of intent to apply.

Potential postdoctoral research associates:

Requirements

  • Should be about to complete or have completed their Ph.D. in biomedical/biomolecular/biological/chemical engineering, biophysics, chemistry, molecular/cell biology, or related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary for a highly collaborative and cross-functional environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven track record of research evidenced through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences
  • Interest in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
  • Interest in cytoskeletal biomechanics

Preferred skills

  • Knowledge of molecular/cellular biophysics, especially the cytoskeleton and motor proteins
  • Experience in microscopy or other biophysical techniques, such as TIRF and optical trapping
  • Experience in in vitro reconstitution

Attractive, but not required skills

Interest in leading the establishment of new skill sets within our lab based on previous experience:

  • New biophysical assays
  • Protein expression and purification
  • Extraction of cytoskeletal proteins (tubulin, actin, myosin, etc.) from animal tissue
  • Stochastic modeling of protein ensembles

Interested applicants should submit the following to the job posting on careers.olemiss.edu:

  • Cover letter detailing research interests, long-term career goals, and motivation for joining our lab
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Two representative publications
  • Contact information for at least three references who can provide letters of recommendation upon request

Feel free to contact Dr. Nikki Reinemann at dnreinem@olemiss.edu with any questions about the position!
