Dr. Vanessa Oliphant
Dr. Vanessa Oliphant is a Southern California native, first-generation scholar, proud alumna of Florida A&M University (Go Rattlers!), and clinical psychologist whose work bridges African American Studies and African/Black Psychology. Her research centers culturally relevant, accessible, and community-based healing strategies that support the mental health and well-being of Black women and Black communities.
Rooted in faith, service, and collective care, Dr. Oliphant is a proud first-generation college graduate and second-generation American from an underrepresented and low-income background. She is deeply passionate about mentoring and supporting students from similar walks of life as they navigate higher education, research, healing, and professional development.
Dr. Oliphant currently directs the Culturally Centered Care Research Lab (CCCR) and holds a joint faculty appointment in African American Studies and Psychology at The University of Mississippi. Her scholarship draws upon Black feminist thought, ancestral healing traditions, African/Black Psychology, and culturally grounded research methodologies to advance liberation, wellness, and justice.
