Another week has come and gone in the Gulf Scholars Program! As September continues on and it is still as hot as ever, our minds and bodies are preoccupied with our environment. This week our scholars have been discussing environmental issues within the gulf, and the many faceted approaches to solving them. The scholars are proving their academic mettle in the classroom with their ideas and discussion!

What is your name, hometown and major?
Leah Feirman; Mobile, AL; International Studies and German double Major with a minor in Business Analytics
What interests you most about the Gulf Scholars Program?
I am beyond excited for the opportunity to discuss issues facing my home community with students and faculty with such varied backgrounds and perspectives.
What are you considering for your Gulf Impact Project?
I plan to complete a case study comparing Mississippi and Alabama waterways with German counterparts. The aim is to start Cross-Atlantic idea exchanges for issues outside of national borders such as rising sea level, erosion, and energy use.
What are you most excited to learn more about?
A. Already in our discussions, I have noticed repeated themes of the resilience and reverence of nature. I look forward to further exploration of these themes in today's rapidly changing social and physical climate.
Q. What do you want to accomplish by the end of the program?
A. I hope to leave this program with a deeper appreciation for our unique region.
